Faial and shiz

Pretty tired today after a weekend in Faial with some of the group, had such a good time! We got back last night after a seven hour boat trip, stopping at Graciosa on the way... Aaand some savvy people called dibs on all the comfy sofas before we could get to them so I ended up cramming myself awkwardly into a couple of hard-backed chairs placed against each other to attempt to sleep. Didn't work so well. Positives: I now know how to play Yuka (spelling?), and Matt has almost perfected his British accent, I'm very proud :)

The weekend was pretty packed - we walked around the Caldeira a bit (Matt, Aleks and Jenny did the whole thing, such troopers!) but Anya, Advaita and I did a bit of it then went back to Horta for some food. The big bonus was that our taxi driver, a lovely guy called Jose Manuel, took us on a tour of the whole island for no extra cost! He stopped the car at various points along the way so we could get out and have a proper look/take photos. The island is stunning, beautiful beaches with crystal blue water and really varied landscape - loads of colour from different flowers and the Caldeira itself was spectacular once the cloud had cleared. It's a huge green crater in the middle of the island, so looking down it was like looking into another world. VERY COOL.

Sunday the weather wasn't so good, but we still got to go to the Capelinhos - the sight where the volcano erupted about 50 years ago. It was incredible, like this massive dust bowl with huge rocks and a cave next to the see - Advaita christened it the Harry Potter cave.

So got back late last night and had to crack on with lesson planning for today as I hadn't had time before we left - as I'm taking the intermediates I'm having to replan a lot of previously prepared lessons as they were more aimed at advanced students.

So another week of teaching, discussion groups and galões ahead of us, then São Miguel for the weekend to see Harry Potter!!!!! Literally so excited. Cannot WAIT.
